A collection of video pieces I directed for Barbour
BARBOUR
Barbour BI x House of Fraser
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Angus Steele
Assistant: Hayden Roundtree
The motorcycle heritage of BI represents a story built on individuality and originality. On top of that, the sense of danger and adventure linked to the sport crosses over into a moody and edgy overall tone we wanted to capture in the film.
The film uses an open shutter camera technique to create motion and subtle strobe lighting effects to help to convey a glitchy and high-tech tone.
Barbour AW21 Women's Secret Garden
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Angus Steele
Assistant: Hayden Roundtree
We wanted to create a film that blends feminine and warm essence in a mysterious poetic secret garden, centring the viewer's focus on the flower patterns on the product, set design, and props.
The model gives off an elegant, playful, and explorative feeling as she escapes to and interacts with a garden environment. We built in the explorative aspect of the film by creating depth with floral elements put in the foreground. We also included dynamic editing techniques that lend vibrancy without losing the warm feeling we aim for.
Barbour AW22 Racer Collection
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Hayden Rountree
Assistant: Giorgia Young
We wanted to harness the energy and dynamic movement of the first light at dawn we will create a slick, modern edit that nods to Barbour International’s rich and timeless heritage.
We shot in a studio environment against a light grey backdrop with a bright clean light beam shining onto the model, reflective of the first dawn light shining between city skyscrapers. We wanted to mirror the textures and geometry of the London skyline at first daw to be seen in our incidentals whilst keeping the tempo edgy and engaging.
Barbour AW22 Women's BI Sport
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Hayden Rountree
Assistant: Giorgia Young
This is a stylistic film that blends a breezy warm summer feels with the lightness and versatility of the active life aesthetic inspired by the 'active on the go' lifestyle of BI women.
We directed our model to give off a natural, relaxed, and athletic feeling as she interacted with the draped fabric environment. To ensure the video had an engaging tempo, we kept the camera moving, with both handheld and slider shots, throughout.
Barbour AW21 Men's Crest
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Angus Steele
Assistant: Hayden Roundtree
To ensure the video has an engaging tempo, we kept the camera moving, with both handheld and slider shots, throughout. The energy and rhythm of the film ensured that we kept the tone young and dynamic.
We lit with warm tungsten light to compliment the brown and deep red colour palette of the props as well as the homely nature of the setting overall.
Barbour AW22 Tourer Collection
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Hayden Rountree
Assistant: Giorgia Young
This is a film with a modern aesthetic reflective of cityscapes and urban life on a sunny summer afternoon.
Soft light on the model was melded with warmth, and a hard shaft light worked as a direct juxtaposition of the cool, metallic buildings against the warm sunset of the London skyline featuring modern architecture in our incidentals.
Barbour AW22 Women's BI Moto
Director: Astrid Salas
DOP: Hayden Rountree
Assistant: Giorgia Young
The motorcycle heritage of Barbour International represents a story built on edge, individuality, and originality. On top of that, the sense of poise and confidence linked to the sport crosses over into a glam and modern overall tone captured in the film.
To create an editorial feel, we shot our model close to a backdrop illuminated with a spotlight to cast bold shadows against a grey slate backdrop keeping with the colour theme of the collection. We also light-track our model mimicking nightlife flash photography.
